Dr. Hagay Shmuely

Co Founder

Hagay is a bioprocessing expert with more than 25 years of experience in protein production, purification, and large‑scale process development. Over the course of my career, He has developed more than 200 production processes and helped companies across the biotech, food, and fermentation industries move from concept to reliable industrial manufacturing.

Hagay’s work combines deep technical expertise with senior leadership experience. He has served as VP of R&D and Director of Biotechnology, leading cross‑functional teams in upstream development (from cloning and strain selection to fermentation), downstream purification under food and pharma standards, analytical development, and cGMP‑aligned scale‑up and production. Hagay specializes in building strong scientific teams, establishing new development platforms, and guiding organizations through the full lifecycle of bioprocess development.

Companies typically approach Hagay when they face challenges such as low expression yields, purification bottlenecks, or scale‑up failures. He has a strong track record of solving these issues and delivering measurable results, including reducing cost of goods by more than 100‑fold, scaling processes up to 35,000‑liter fermentation, and designing purification workflows that achieve >99.5% purity with >99% of the protein in its highest active form.

Hagay worked extensively with precision fermentation startups, alternative protein companies, enzyme manufacturers, and RNA production groups. His experience also includes tech transfer to CDMOs, cost modeling and techno economics, enabling companies to make informed decisions as they move toward industrial production.

Nowadays, Hagay supports organizations as a consultant, offering full process development, troubleshooting, scale‑up strategy, CMC guidance, and team mentoring. His goal is to help companies build robust, efficient, and scalable bioprocesses, while equipping their teams with the knowledge and systems needed for long term success.
